As we pulled up to the last road to the beach the sky was a bit smoky and you could see planes dropping water down....FIRE! When we got to the camp ground the ranger said someone set a few homes on fire and that was why it was smoky. You could smell it in the air. So we got to our site (space 83) and started to set up.
After that the sky was in that Twilight stage so we decided to go for a walk and take the trail to the beach for sunset. OMGOSH, you know you are really out of shape when you have to climb these wooden, half broken old stairs in half sand that go straight up for about half a mile (give or take, to me it felt like 5 miles lol), with the ocassional resting so I could breathe and stop my heart from hammering in my chest, we made it lol, oh man was that truly a workout and a bit embarrassing, I workout on the treadmill and do walks at the park but they have nothing on that beach trail lol. After cursing the trail, and promising myself I would NEVER do that trail again lol, we settled in to see this...
It was beautiful! Dustin said it reminded him of mine and his beach trips before we had kids (well I was pregnant with Austin lol) when we would drive up together to watch the sunsets at this beach and sometimes at the beaches in Santa Cruz. So we headed back after the sunset, even though I promised never to do the trail again, I had to to get back unless I wanted to walk a real 4 miles in the sand and then another mile up a long hill to get back lol. This would truly be my last time and BOY was it tough (eyeroll). We got back settled in, did some smores with our camp fire (btw Dustin forgot the firewood so he and Aidan had to go get it.). After that we all went to bed.
The next morning we cooked breakfast (bacon and eggs, Dustin does the bacon and I do the eggs, lol that is so funny but it's how we do it at home too, I am the one who knows how to do the over med. eggs we all like to eat). After breakfast I notcied we all had little red bumps. I noticed it really bad on both the boys faces. Then I started seeing masquitos everywhere in the camping trailer. YUCK! After adding some bug spray and sunscreen to the kids, we got ready for our day at the beach. It was early so the beach was not to full yet. Here are some pictures of our first trip...
Bella took a nap and we she woke up I changed her into a different shirt because the pink one got sandy and wet. Half way through the day, the sky changed and the grey clouds started coming in. There was alot of thunder and lightning. You could see the lightning flash down to the ocean. The beach lifeguard got in his truck and drove around telling everyone they had to get out of the water and put our unbrellas down. We sat and watched for a while, I took pictures of the changing sky and when it seemed the lightning was getting a little to close we packed it in.
We went back to camp and started making lunch. Dustin BBQed some steak meat. I had to got to the women's room to recharge my camera battery (LOL) so I took a book with me and sat outside reading and watching the strange weather while it charged. It rain a little. Maybe an hour or so and then the sun came back out. The boys met two other boys their age that they played with for a while. Since the lightning storm cleared (BTW this is the lightning storm that cause over 1000 fires here in California, alot of these fires are still going on here, you can smell them from our home and it has been so cloudy), we decided to head back to the beach around 5pm. It was colder now, so the boys just mostly played on the beach, building the big hole fort they build with their dad everytime we go to the beach lol, and Dustin even dug holes that the boys got into and he added sand in, up to their heads. It was so funny! They could not get out without us digging them out (well Aidan kinda did, Austin had a hard time), and a bunch of beach goers thought it was so funny and they stopped to take pictures of their own lol. We went back to camp an hour or so later because everyone was cold. We cooked dinner, more steak meat, mashed potatoes and some corn on the cob. After we had another fire with more smores for the boys, this time Austin fell asleep and missed out on them (the night before it was Aidan lol). I made sure to kill all the masquitos in the trailer, BUT as we found out in the morning, the few times Dustin got up in the night to use the restroom he let more in (eyeroll lol) and in the morning everyone had more bits, the poor boys had them all over their faces. We had breakfast and then packed it in a bit early to get on the road early. It took about three hours to get everything put away, cleaned out and the trailer put down. We decided not to hit the beach one last time and just head home. All in all it was a pretty good trip :) Here are a few more pictures of the last beach trip we took. I should add that the second time we went to the beach Bella was a little tired, she mostly stayed on the blanket under the umbrella with the solar radio just turning the knobs lol. She was dancing and singing with it too.
Okay I am off to bed
